Let’s talk about consultations for a few minutes. I know you want to, it will be a whole lot of fun. Did you know that consultations are super important? We believe that everyone should do a consultation prior to their photography session. Whether it is for your family portraits, tween portrait, engagement session or your headshot, we highly encourage you to meet with us to talk.

But why you ask?

Let me explain. During the consultation, we are going to sit down with you and talk about your photography needs. We are going to ask you lots of questions about what you are looking for, where you will use the portraits, what your hobbies are, that kind of thing. It might seem like a lot, but it’s important because we want your portraits to reflect you as a person, not just another client.

During this time, you will also be able to ask us any questions you have regarding clothing choices, location, our process, etc. After we have talked and chatted a bit, we will go over products and pricing with you so that you are clear on how much everything costs. Remember, not everything has to be paid up front, and there will be decisions to make after the session. However, this meeting will give you an introduction and some idea of costs to come.

How long does it take?

You’re probably thinking that this sounds lengthy and that you don’t have any questions, but I guarantee you will come up with some. Plus, it’s only right for you to know what you’re getting into. We don’t want you to feel like you have been misled and we want everything to be open and honest. So, we tell people to plan for an hour, but honestly, it depends on what type of photography you are looking for. Wedding consultations take longer than headshots. Length of time will also depend on whether we meet in person or do a consultation over the phone/zoom.

In summary…

we know this may sound like extra work and time, but trust us when we tell you that it’s going to benefit you in the long run. You will be more comfortable during the session, you will know what to expect and you won’t have sticker shock during the sales session. So please, don’t skip the consultation!
