Have you ever heard that the camera adds 10 pounds? I swear, when I get my picture taken, it adds at least 25. Todays tip helps if you feel the way I do. A very simple way to appear slimmer/smaller in your portraits is to wear darker clothing. So, dark grays, navies, blacks… they will all help “hide” what many of us don’t want standing out. Of course, it also depends on your pose and the lens the photographer uses, but I personally feel like if there is anything I can do to help, let me at it!
We are not saying that you should never wear light colored clothing. After all, don’t brides typically dress head to toe in white, and they always look beautiful. However, a good rule of thumb to remember is that light colors can make you appear larger than you are, while darker colors can make you appear smaller. Don’t throw on a black shirt and think it’s going to solve every problem you feel you have, but it can help.
As always, if you are concerned about how you will look in your portraits, talk to your photographer about it. Trust me when I say that you aren’t the only person in the world who has these concerns and as professional photographers, it’s our job to make you feel amazing. After all, we want you to LOVE your portraits and be proud to hang them on all the walls in your house!
